Plants and Water Tank

Above,  Thinning out the tomato plants
There is serious math involved.  I moved the chalk board into the wood shop for this exact reason.

Above, building the 260 Gallon water tank
Below, we will be giving these tomato plants away a the science center on May 15th.  Part of the 4 "R" expo.

Above we are reinforcing the metal studs to hold the grow medium better.
The water tank has been reinforced with steel "u" brackets made by our Transportation students.  The structure will be lined with pond liner.  Its over 21 feet long.  It has to be moved from the wood shop to the next room over.  The longest thing we have made in the shop was an 18 foot kayak, http://www.projectkillerbee.com/Boat/Boat.html

Wall on the wall

Above, this is a test of the Ram Set we borrowed from a parent.  Worked great.
Below, the last of the cross members were installed.

It looked heavier then it is.  Fit was perfect,
You can see the full scope of the project in this picture.  The metal things at the bottom are will be used to keep the water tank from spiting open.

Using the ram set was a blast.

Let there be light!

Above the new idea for the lights is being built.  We have attached them all to a 21 foot piece of 1 X 1 Angle iron.  Then we will hang them as a unit.
Below the last bit of duct work is installed.

Lights work.  Just need the proper bulbs now.

Set back on the living wall

We had a bit of a set back today as the lights would not fit under the duct work.  Looks like we will try hanging them on Friday.  All the framing is done and we started on the duct work.  We are on schedule except for the lighting.  May have the grade 12's help with the lighting

Bigger and Better, Living Wall part 2

This living wall will be 250 square feet and will cover 21 feet of wall space in the back of a classroom.

This first post shows the kids planting tomatoes to give away at the Science Center in May.  We will have an interactive booth and will promote cleaner air.

This last shot shows the scope of the project.  The entire wall where the students are removing the screws from the cork boards is where the living wall will be.
